Position Overview

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Senior Digital Architect to provide architecture leadership across the Court Technology Services (CTS) Applications, Data & AI portfolio.

The successful candidate will work across multiple applications, projects, modernization initiatives, operational activities, and strategic technology priorities. This role will provide leadership across enterprise architecture, solution architecture, application modernization, cloud and platform technologies, data and AI, integration, security, governance, and Application Management Services (AMS).

The Senior Digital Architect will work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, project teams, operational teams, and architecture governance groups to develop sustainable, secure, scalable, and supportable technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Solution Design

• Develop current-state and target-state architecture roadmaps across business, application, data, integration, security, and technology domains.
  
• Define architecture principles, standards, patterns, guardrails, reusable components, and reference architectures.
  
• Develop solution architecture documents, technical designs, integration models, architecture decision records, technical assessments, and implementation roadmaps.
  
• Assess technical feasibility, operational readiness, sustainability, scalability, and long-term support requirements.
  
• Identify and evaluate architecture risks, dependencies, security impacts, technical constraints, and solution trade-offs.
  
• Participate in architecture governance, technical reviews, and Architecture Review Board (ARB) activities.
  

Technical Leadership & Implementation

• Provide hands-on technical leadership to developers, application analysts, technical leads, support teams, and vendors.
  
• Review technical designs, application implementations, integrations, deployments, configurations, and other technical deliverables.
  
• Establish integration approaches, interface patterns, application boundaries, and reusable technical capabilities.
  
• Support cloud platforms, Azure, Red Hat OpenShift, DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and environment management.
  
• Contribute directly to technical implementation activities when required.
  
• Mentor technical resources and promote architecture and engineering best practices.
  

Business & Systems Analysis

• Facilitate discovery sessions, workshops, stakeholder consultations, and technical discussions.
  
• Elicit, analyze, validate, and document business and technical requirements.
  
• Develop process models, user stories, requirements documentation, impact assessments, and solution options.
  
• Translate business objectives into technical requirements, architecture solutions, and delivery plans.
  
• Support prioritization of initiatives, enhancements, defects, and modernization opportunities.
  

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

• College or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  
• TOGAF certification.
  
• Minimum 8 years of experience leading cross-functional Agile product teams, providing architectural direction, and mentoring developers and technical leads.
  
• Minimum 5 years of experience architecting, managing, and maintaining Azure Red Hat OpenShift clusters.
  
• Minimum 8 years of experience identifying and assessing requirements across multiple architecture domains, including:

• Minimum 7 years of experience documenting application architectures within a large enterprise IT environment.
  
• Minimum 7 years of experience planning, designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise platform solutions.
  
• Minimum 8 years of experience providing technical leadership, planning, estimating, and presenting technical ideas and solutions.
  

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• 5+ years collaborating with data architects, engineers, and analysts to design and optimize cloud architecture and services.
  
• 5+ years developing or contributing to application architecture standards and guidelines.
  
• 5+ years working as an application architect designing or maintaining solutions using enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) hub architecture/registries.
  
• 5+ years developing enterprise solutions using the amCharts charting framework.
  
• 5+ years developing or architecting enterprise mobile solutions.
  
• 5+ years of experience working with OWASP Top Ten web application security vulnerabilities.
  

Work Location

This position is expected to be 100% onsite in Edmonton, Alberta, working from the Court Technology Services office at either the John E. Brownlee Building or First & Jasper Place, as operationally required.
