One of the leading AI companies we work closely with is looking for an Applied Research Engineer (AI Agents / Generative AI) to drive the research, development, evaluation, and real-world implementation of advanced AI agents for enterprise customers.

The company develops proprietary Japanese-language LLMs and enterprise AI solutions utilizing advanced technologies such as Agentic RAG, Agentic OCR, Deep Research, and Knowledge Graphs. Its solutions have already been implemented by more than 300 companies, including major enterprises.

In this position, you will bridge cutting-edge AI research and real-world business applications, transforming research findings and prototypes into production-ready AI agents that deliver measurable value to enterprise customers.

You will take ownership of the entire AI development lifecycle, from initial Proof of Concept (PoC) and technical validation through AI agent architecture design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous product improvement.

This is a highly technical and research-oriented engineering role combining Applied AI Research, Generative AI development, AI agent optimization, and enterprise implementation.

This is a Full Remote position from anywhere in Japan with salary up to ¥15,000,000.

Job Responsibilities

・Research, develop, and enhance advanced AI agents utilizing LLMs, RAG, and related AI technologies

・Design and improve core AI agent logic, architectures, and workflows

・Design and execute PoCs to validate research findings and evaluate their practical business applications

・Develop and implement AI agent solutions tailored to enterprise customer requirements

・Design evaluation frameworks and continuous improvement processes for production AI agents

・Conduct accuracy evaluations, benchmarking, prompt optimization, and workflow improvements

・Translate customer business challenges into technical requirements in collaboration with Product Managers and consultants

・Lead technical decision-making through experimentation, validation, and hands-on implementation

・Collaborate closely with AI/NLP researchers, engineers, Product Managers, and consultants

・Apply insights gained from experiments and customer implementations to improve AI products and future research initiatives

Requirements

Required

・Research experience in AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Machine Learning, including academic or industry research

・Knowledge of and hands-on development experience with Generative AI technologies, including LLMs, RAG, or AI agents

・Strong Python programming skills, with the ability to independently conduct experiments, evaluate results, and develop prototypes

・Ability to evaluate technical validation results from both product development and business value perspectives

・Ability to translate experimental findings into actionable technical improvements and product development decisions

・Ability to reside in Japan

Preferred

・Experience designing, developing, or evaluating LLM-based AI agents and agent workflows

・Experience developing AI evaluation frameworks, benchmarking systems, or accuracy evaluation processes

・Experience leading customer-facing PoC projects or applied AI research and development initiatives

・Experience commercializing research outcomes or integrating advanced AI technologies into production products

・Knowledge of statistical modeling, Bayesian inference, or probabilistic modeling

・Experience publishing or presenting research at international conferences, academic journals, or domestic research conferences

・Experience working in corporate R&D organizations, AI startups, or research-driven product development environments
