Overview & Responsibilities
The Data Centre Design & Infrastructure Strategy Engineer defines the design, expansion, and modernization strategy across more than 30 global facilities in 12 countries. The role sets design standards, evaluates site feasibility, models costed investment options, and bridges the gap between network architecture and physical data center facilities. Key responsibilities include:
-
Design Standards: Define and maintain data center classification standards, rack provisioning specs, power density assumptions, and cabling guidelines based on site purpose.
-
Site Feasibility & Uplift Strategy: Conduct deep-dive site assessments on power/cooling capacity and device footprints, and commission/interpret engineering studies to form recommendations.
-
Business Case & Option Modelling: Develop costed expansion proposals (space reclamation, additional racks, new whitespace) covering CapEx, OpEx, and recurring cost impacts.
-
Architecture Challenge: Direct in-rack placement, cabling media, redundancy, and pod versus legacy architectures, questioning legacy network designs when necessary.
-
Vendor & Partner Management: Negotiate power, cage expansions, and containment modifications with colocation providers, while managing cabling vendors and engineering consultants.
Requirements
Qualifications: Years of Experience & Tech Stack
-
Years of Experience: Substantial experience in data center design, engineering, or infrastructure strategy (ideally in a multi-site regional role), OR a strong background in network architecture design looking to pivot into DC strategy.
-
Tech Stack & Domain Infrastructure:
-
Networking & Architecture: Network architecture design (routing, switching, connectivity, spine/leaf topology, pod-based designs, switch configurations, and cabling media).
-
Mechanical & Electrical (M&E): Solid understanding of DC M&E, including UPS, PDU, CRAC/AHU units, cooling capacity/containment, and three-phase power distribution.
-
DCIM & Business Modeling: DCIM tooling, capacity forecasting platforms, and financial modeling for CapEx/OpEx business cases.
-
Preferred Skills & Advantage
-
Background in network architecture/engineering, facilities engineering, or enterprise infrastructure planning.
-
Direct experience supporting highly regulated enterprise environments, particularly financial institutions.
-
Working knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier standards, ASHRAE thermal guidelines, and local APAC regulatory compliance.
-
Relevant professional certifications such as CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional) or equivalent.
