SHAPE YOUR FUTURE. THRIVE WITH US.
Projects on land and on the water. A place to put your experience to work.
Based in New Richmond, Les Entreprises PEC employs approximately 100 people and delivers civil construction, marine construction and infrastructure maintenance projects across Eastern Canada.
Behind these projects, you’ll find an approachable, welcoming management team, a General Manager who stays connected with employees, and experienced crews. You’ll work directly with decision-makers and site supervisors, contributing your expertise to construction methods, project preparation and estimating practices.
To support its projects and future growth, PEC is creating an Estimator — Estimating Lead position. This is an opportunity to put your experience to work preparing bids while helping shape the company’s estimating tools and practices.
Requirements
YOUR ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Projects and Estimating, you will be responsible for preparing estimates and bids for projects typically valued between $1 million and $10 million, with some exceeding that range.
You’ll combine hands-on estimating with a mandate to improve PEC’s estimating practices. You’ll have the latitude to recommend improvements and put them into practice, with your manager’s support.
HOW YOU’ll MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
- Advance estimating methods and tools. Review current practices, agree on priority improvements with your manager and take the lead in implementing them. Improve tools, maintain cost data and strengthen bid review procedures.
- Plan and prepare bids. Organize your workload around submission deadlines, review drawings, specifications and addenda, complete quantity takeoffs, and estimate labour, material, equipment, transportation and subcontracting costs.
- Validate costs, construction methods and production rates. Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes, checking inclusions and exclusions. Work with site teams to confirm resource requirements, expected production rates and project-specific constraints.
- Help assess bidding opportunities and complete final bid reviews. Present costs, risks, outstanding questions and alternatives to your manager to support informed decisions and submit complete, compliant and competitive bids.
- Support project handover and apply lessons from completed work. Explain budgets, assumptions and key considerations to project teams before work begins. Compare estimated costs and production rates with actual results to improve future estimates.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
You have relevant experience estimating civil construction projects and can independently prepare a bid. You’re skilled at reading drawings and specifications, completing quantity takeoffs and developing cost estimates. You understand construction methods and how they affect productivity, costs and schedules.
Whether you’re a civil engineering technologist, an engineer or an experienced estimator who developed your expertise on the job, we’d like to hear from you.
You’re comfortable using Excel and estimating software to organize data, check calculations and explain the basis of your estimates. You identify missing information and know when to consult your manager, a project manager or a site supervisor.
You enjoy improving how work gets done and collaborating with others to put ideas into practice. You listen, exercise sound judgment and take a thorough approach to finding solutions that work in the field. You’re organized and able to manage several bids while meeting deadlines.
You can communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
