Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia – 1672 Granville Street
Department: Public Works – Driver Licensing Section
Contract: August 27, 2026 – October 5, 2026
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7 hours/day
Position Type: Temporary / Contract

Position Overview
The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a Clerk 3 (ADM04) to provide administrative and operational support within the Driver Licensing Section, Medical Fitness and Driver Competency area. The successful candidate will help maintain efficient daily operations, support staff and stakeholders, maintain accurate records, and ensure timely processing of documentation related to driver licensing activities.
This position requires strong administrative judgment, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work independently under broad supervision while handling exceptions to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Driver Licensing Section.
  • Support the Medical Fitness and Driver Competency functions and assist with maintaining day-to-day operations.
  • Perform a variety of assignments requiring knowledge of established policies, procedures, and administrative practices.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making when dealing with exceptions from established guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist with or oversee daily office operations and workflow as required.
  • Supervise and provide direction to staff when assigned.
  • Prepare, review, verify, and maintain various records, reports, statements, and administrative documentation.
  • Prepare and verify documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Maintain organized and accurate files and records.
  • Maintain office and departmental inventory, including tracking and distribution as required.
  • Coordinate the receipt and distribution of inter-office mail and documentation.
  • Assist with financial or administrative reporting, including preparation of various financial statements where required.
  • Respond to internal inquiries and provide timely administrative support to staff and stakeholders.
  • Identify discrepancies or exceptions and take appropriate action within established authority.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Prioritize multiple assignments while meeting established deadlines and service requirements.
  • Perform other related clerical and administrative duties as assigned.


Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications & Skills
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Grade XI education plus four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience performing administrative and clerical duties in an office environment.
  • Experience with document preparation, review, verification, and records maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining accurate files, records, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with established guidelines, policies, and procedures and exercise judgment when handling exceptions.
  • Experience supporting daily office operations and administrative workflows.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under broad supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
Preferred / Asset Qualifications
  • Previous experience within a government, public-sector, regulatory, transportation, or licensing environment.
  • Experience supporting driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, or regulatory administration.
  • Experience supervising or providing direction to administrative staff.
  • Experience preparing financial statements or administrative reports.
  • Experience managing office inventory and inter-office correspondence/mail.
  • Familiarity with government administrative policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and dependable administrative professional with strong attention to detail and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment. The candidate should be comfortable handling multiple priorities, maintaining accurate records, supporting office operations, and dealing professionally with staff and stakeholders.
