POSITION SUMMARY

The Tax Manager is a skilled tax professional responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, supporting proactive tax planning, and serving as a trusted resource to clients and team members. This role combines technical expertise with client advisory support, helping individuals and businesses navigate tax complexities, make informed financial decisions, and identify opportunities for long-term tax savings.

As a key contributor to client success and engagement quality, the Tax Manager works with a high degree of independence, mentors developing staff, and helps strengthen the firm's reputation for exceptional service. This position offers a clear path toward a Tax Advisor role for professionals who are committed to deepening their technical expertise, expanding client relationships, and delivering strategic value beyond compliance.

Position has potential to be remote, though preference would be in-office (Enterprise, Oregon or Ketchum, Idaho), or hybrid. Only individuals eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship will be considered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, and other entities.
  • Analyze financial information and supporting documentation to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
  • Assist clients with tax-related questions and information requests throughout the year.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities, planning considerations, and potential risks, communicating recommendations to supervisors and clients as appropriate.
  • Perform tax research and summarize findings related to federal and state tax issues.
  • Support team members with tax planning engagements and advisory projects; review and provide feedback for junior staff.
  • Ensure workpapers, client files, and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
  • Assist with IRS and state tax authority correspondence, notices, and examinations.
  • Contribute to process improvements and best practices that enhance client service and operational efficiency.
  • Stay current on tax law changes, regulatory developments, and emerging planning opportunities.
  • Support client retention by building trust, responsiveness, and confidence in the firm’s services.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive tax preparation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation.
  • Experience preparing complex tax returns with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client engagements simultaneously.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • EA designation, CPA candidate, or CPA license.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior team members.
  • Experience with trusts, estates, multi-state taxation, agriculture, real estate, or closely held businesses.
  • Experience conducting tax research and documenting technical conclusions.
  • Prior public accounting or CPA firm experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in tax planning and advisory services.
