Laser Process Engineer (NPI) Location: Berlin, CT Workplace Type: On-site (4–5 days/week) Employment Type: Full-time Target Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000 / year + Full Benefits Position Summary As a Laser Process Engineer – NPI, you will lead multiple facets of New Product Introduction (NPI), collaborating both independently and within cross-functional project teams to successfully execute and launch new programs involving advanced laser technologies—including Laser Cutting, Laser Welding, and Laser Marking. Key Responsibilities Drive and support all phases of New Product Introduction (NPI) related to laser processes, equipment, and precision manufactured products. Lead new program launches and ensure smooth, successful handoffs to Production and Sustaining engineering teams. Verify that all laser processes meet project requirements (cycle times, operational efficiencies, quality thresholds) prior to production transfer. Collaborate closely with R&D personnel to facilitate the seamless transfer of technical projects to NPI and Project Management. Develop and execute validation protocols and reports (IQ / OQ / PQ) for parts, processes, and laser equipment. Author process development documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, visual standards, setup guides, and parameter sheets. Partner with Quality Engineering to establish Process Routings, Control Plans, PFMEAs, and Material Data Sheets. Investigate process nonconformances and lead root-cause analysis and corrective action initiatives. Set up equipment, generate part programs, and establish robust, repeatable laser manufacturing recipes. Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with internal teams and external customers. Define specifications, evaluate vendor options, and qualify new laser equipment and tooling for new program initiatives. Travel occasionally to customer sites, industry events, and secondary manufacturing facilities as required. Qualifications & Skills Technical Experience: Practical engineering experience in high-precision manufacturing, medical device fabrication, or related advanced manufacturing environments utilizing laser processing (cutting, welding, marking). Validation & Quality Systems: Hands-on experience developing and executing IQ/OQ/PQ validations, PFMEAs, and process control plans. Prints & Tolerancing: Strong blueprint interpretation skills with advanced knowledge of GD&T. Statistical Methods: Proficient in running Design of Experiments (DOEs), statistical process control (SPC), and data interpretation. Software Tools: CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD / DraftSight). Laser programming and nesting software (e.g., Cagila 2D/3D, dedicated laser marking/welding control interfaces). Programming & Controls: Solid working understanding of G&M codes, machine controls, and core optical/laser physics. Soft Skills: Strong technical writing, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication abilities.
