About the Role

Following the expansion of Baseline Media & Entertainment’s news and current affairs programming, we are seeking a Political Presenter / Correspondent to support political coverage across Base FM 101.1 and Base TV.


The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, interpreting and presenting political developments and current affairs to audiences across television and radio. The role requires an individual with strong knowledge of Nigerian and international politics, excellent command of political language and terminology, and the ability to communicate complex political developments clearly, intelligently and engagingly.


The successful candidate should be confident in interviewing political actors, analysing current affairs and managing live, unscripted political discussions. The role requires strong editorial judgement, impartiality and the ability to represent the station professionally and credibly. The role will also require flexibility to support other activities within the broader broadcast and media function as operational needs require, including work around key productions, programmes and business engagements.


Key Responsibilities

Political Reporting & Analysis

  • Research and monitor developments in Nigerian and international politics, governance and public affairs.
  • Provide informed political analysis and commentary, translating complex developments into clear and engaging content.
  • Develop stories, reports, interviews, briefing materials, scripts and other content for news and current affairs programming.
  • Attend relevant political, governmental, electoral and public affairs events and provide coverage where required.

Presentation & Correspondence

  • Present political and current affairs programmes and segments across Base TV and Base FM 101.1
  • Conduct interviews with politicians, public officials, analysts, experts and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ask informed questions, manage challenging interviews and confidently lead live political discussions and panels.
  • Deliver content with strong diction, confidence, composure and professionalism across TV, radio and digital platforms.

Content & Collaboration

  • Work with production, editorial, programming and communications teams to develop relevant political and current affairs content.
  • Contribute ideas for programmes, features, interviews, discussions and special coverage.
  • Ensure content is well-researched, factually accurate, balanced and aligned with editorial and organisational standards.
  • Support productions, events and other activities within the broader broadcast and media function as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, Law, History or a related discipline. (NYSC discharge or exemption certificate is required)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of cumulative experience in broadcast journalism or political media, including at least three (3) years of verifiable on-air experience as a presenter, anchor or correspondent.
  • Proven experience presenting on television and radio.
  • Demonstrable experience in political reporting or correspondence, current affairs or political programming, election and campaign coverage, newsroom political desks, or moderation of political debates, town halls or panel discussions.
  • Experience conducting interviews with political figures, public officials, analysts and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to research, analyse and communicate political developments accurately and effectively.
  • Postgraduate qualifications, membership of recognised professional bodies, and relevant training in broadcast presentation, media law or election reporting will be an advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian and international politics, governance and public affairs.
  • Working knowledge of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, election coverage guidelines and basic principles of defamation.
  • Good understanding of electoral processes, legislative affairs and governance structures.
  • Familiarity with broadcast production tools and practices, including teleprompters, earpiece cues, studio floor discipline and remote/field transmission.
  • Strong script writing and programme development skills.
  • Demonstrable digital and social media presence, with the ability to extend programme content and audience engagement across relevant platforms.
  • Strong research, fact-checking and analytical skills.
  • Excellent spoken English, diction and presentation skills, with clear and neutral broadcast delivery. Fluency in at least one major Nigerian language will be an advantage.
  • Strong interviewing and questioning abilities.
  • Ability to work confidently in live and recorded broadcast environments.
  • Understanding of TV, radio and digital media production.

Screen Test Requirement

Candidates are required to submit a three-to-five-minute screen test video alongside their CV/Resume as part of the application process.

The video should include:

  • Presentation to Camera
    A presentation on a current national political issue of the candidate’s choice, delivered in their own words.
  • Unscripted Interview Segment
    Using the same issue, identify a relevant named public official and outline three questions you would ask them, with a brief explanation of why each question is relevant.The recording should:
  • Be in landscape orientation.
  • Have clear audio.
  • Be recorded against a quiet, suitable background.
  • Demonstrate your natural delivery and presentation ability.

Professional production quality is not required. The assessment will focus on delivery, political knowledge, analysis and substance.
