Functional Consultant SAP Classic - Senior

Nextlink is looking for an experienced Senior Functional Consultant – SAP Classic to support an ongoing SAP ERP programme in Berlin.

The consultant will be responsible for analysing business requirements, configuring and enhancing SAP functional solutions, supporting implementation and maintenance activities, and resolving functional issues across an established SAP ERP environment.

The role is particularly focused on SAP Classic / SAP ECC environments rather than exclusively SAP S/4HANA. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on SAP configuration experience and the ability to work closely with business stakeholders, SAP technical teams, developers, and other functional consultants.

The position covers a combination of implementation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, support, troubleshooting, and continuous functional improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather, analyse, and document business requirements from business stakeholders and process owners.
  
• Translate business requirements into effective SAP functional solutions.
  
• Configure and customise relevant SAP functional modules in line with SAP standard functionality and established solution architecture.
  
• Analyse existing SAP processes and identify functional gaps, improvement opportunities, and appropriate SAP solutions.
  
• Participate in SAP implementation, enhancement, maintenance, upgrade, and support activities.
  
• Maintain and enhance existing SAP functionality while ensuring solution stability and compatibility.
  
• Investigate, analyse, and resolve SAP functional incidents, service requests, and support tickets.
  
• Perform functional testing, including preparation of test scenarios, test cases, execution, defect analysis, and resolution validation.
  
• Support integration and end-to-end testing across relevant SAP modules and business processes.
  
• Work closely with SAP technical consultants, developers, integration teams, and other functional specialists to deliver solutions.
  
• Prepare clear functional specifications for technical development where required.
  
• Create and maintain configuration documentation, process flows, functional models, diagrams, guidelines, and operational documentation.
  
• Support data validation, functional analysis, and business process testing activities.
  
• Participate in release, upgrade, and deployment activities.
  
• Provide functional guidance and support to business users and client representatives.
  
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and optimisation of SAP business processes.
  
• Ensure solutions follow SAP standard practices, project governance, and applicable documentation requirements.
  
• Support knowledge transfer and provide guidance to other project or support team members where required.
  

SAP Modules in Scope

The project covers several SAP functional areas, including:

• SAP Finance (FI)
  
• SAP Human Resources (HR/HCM)
  
• SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  
• SAP CRM – Sales & Marketing
  

Candidates do not necessarily need to have deep expertise across all modules. Strong hands-on experience in one or more of the above functional areas is relevant, provided the candidate has solid SAP Classic/ECC experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with SAP ECC / SAP Classic / SAP ERP environments.
  
• Proven experience in SAP functional configuration and customisation.
  
• Strong understanding of SAP business processes and functional integration.
  
• Experience gathering and analysing business requirements.
  
• Ability to translate business requirements into SAP functional solutions.
  
• Experience preparing functional specifications and configuration documentation.
  
• Strong functional testing and defect-resolution experience.
  
• Experience working with SAP technical consultants and developers.
  
• Experience supporting SAP production environments and resolving functional issues.
  
• Experience with SAP implementation, enhancement, maintenance, or upgrade projects.
  
• Strong stakeholder communication and business-facing consulting skills.
  
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical and functional teams.
  
• Professional fluency in German is required.
