Mechanical Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment in power generation and water desalination plants.
  
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, gearboxes, heat exchangers, and associated equipment.
  
• Maintain rotating and static equipment, including bearings, seals, couplings, piping systems, and lubrication systems.
  
• Carry out equipment dismantling, installation, alignment, testing, and commissioning activities.
  
• Support planned shutdowns, plant overhauls, and emergency maintenance activities.
  
• Diagnose mechanical faults and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  
• Record maintenance activities, inspection findings, spare-parts usage, and equipment conditions.
  
• Follow Permit-to-Work, lockout/tagout, confined-space, and other plant safety procedures.
  
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, and other maintenance teams.
  
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and orderly condition.
  
• Comply with QEWC site procedures, quality standards, and HSE requirements.
  

Requirements

Requirements

• ITI, Diploma, or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in power generation, water desalination, oil and gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial plants.
  
• Strong experience with pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, gearboxes, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
  
• Hands-on knowledge of equipment alignment, bearing replacement, seal replacement, lubrication, and mechanical fitting.
  
• Experience in preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, shutdowns, and major plant overhauls.
  
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
  
• Familiarity with PTW, LOTO, confined-space entry, toolbox talks, and industrial HSE procedures.
  
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments, alignment tools, and mechanical maintenance equipment.
  
• Good English communication and basic computer skills.
  
• Previous Gulf, power plant, or desalination plant experience is preferred.
  
• Must be medically fit and able to work shifts and in demanding plant conditions.
